Photographic Workshop in Cornwall, ENGLAND
Patrisha McLean will guide you through photographing people on your travels, confronting your fears of approaching strangers, and then getting beyond snapshots to bring some magic to your portraits. You will learn how to decide who you want to photograph, how to approach them and get their permission, and how to direct them to the best location and light. As we explore magnificent Cornwall, Patrisha will instruct you in photographing people in posed and candid situations and in various lighting conditions. She will also discuss how to take more interesting photos of every subject you are drawn to, from food to flowers and landscapes, by applying a few simple principles.
Jean Fogelberg will instruct the group in post-processing your photos with Adobe Photoshop®, enabling you to fine tune your new photographs and get special effects. Topics covered will include cropping for composition, fine tuning exposure and color, converting images to black and white and HDR, retouching faces, adding vignettes, correcting lens distortion, and adding a watermark. For the first three mornings, Jean will teach the beginner digital photographers in the group about the Aperture, Shutter Speed, ISO, and White Balance settings on your DSLR camera and how they affect your images.
Patrisha teaches The Art of Photographing Children at the Maine Media Workshops and is the author of All Fall Down, a biography of the child actor Brandon deWilde, and two books of portraits accompanied by stories: My Island, published in 2015, and Maine Street. www.patrishamclean.com
We will be based out of Penzance, Cornwall for the duration of the workshop. We'll be staying at the Tremont Hotel and the Pendennis Guest House, which are side by side. Classes will be held at the Tremont Hotel.
Day trips to amazing locations, local events, and shopping will keep our feet on the ground. On the days off there will be plenty of shopping opportunities or a chance to go to the beach. We can also arrange trips to some of the other renowned and mystical spots in the area.
When the weather permits, we will begin the day with a Sunrise Shoot (optional - we respect the late risers among us), then we'll get together for breakfast before starting excursions and classes.
