Self and Other:
October 26 - November 2, 2016
During the period of the workshop, the two personal planets intimately involved in relationships are intermingling with the tension of the planetary squares that have been so prevalent on the global landscape this decade. Perhaps it is a good time to reflect on the changes that have taken place in our personal relationships and how we might come to honour these. Using the symbols of astrology the intention of the seminar will be to discover a more authentic way of relating while honouring the mysteries of attachment, love and relationship.
The workshop occurs at a crossroads in the yearly cycle. In northern hemisphere it is harvest’s end. Many mythic images gather around the theme of this ‘darker’ part of the year. The Celtic festival known as Samhain is during this period; it is a liminal time when the boundary between this world and the otherworld is porous and contact between the living and the dead is more accessible. When consciously working with this moment in time, it becomes time to appease and honour the dead, to let go and to return to living. Using this living symbol we will turn our gaze during this time to reflect on endings and losses in relationships.
There will be plenty of time for participants to work with their own charts in the context of relationships and to gain grounding in how to approach the horoscope through the eyes of attachments, love and relationship. As part of the workshop experiential processes will be used to deepen our understanding, stimulate our imagination and reveal steps forward.

Workshop Times, Dates and Schedule
Day 1 First Impressions
October 26 Moon conjunct North Node 9.46 am
Today we splash astrological colours over the large canvas of relationships starting with an overview of the astrology of relationships, concentrating on the archetypes of relating and patterns in the horoscope that speak to the dynamics of relating. We will begin by reflecting on our first encounters with parents and siblings through our horoscope’s patterning, as well as discuss the impact our primary relationships.
Day 2 Beliefs and Biases
October 27 Venus square Neptune 9.54 am
With Venus in Sagittarius squaring Neptune in Pisces it is appropriate to explore our philosophy of relating, cross-cultural connections, romantic love and all the beliefs, ideals and principles we carry into our relationships. Today we focus on the authenticity of our approach to and intention for relationship.
Day 3 Intimacy and Diversity
October 28 Sun conjunct Mercury 0.16 am
Venus square Nodal Axis 5.28 am
Moon Conjunct Jupiter 6.43 pm
Relationships comprise a broad spectrum from familiarity to formality or from friend to foe. Today we will look at the spectrum of relating using astrological symbols and images from our own horoscopes.
Day 4 Cycles and Passages
October 29 Mars square Uranus 12.06 pm
Expect the unexpected when Mars squares Uranus. What can we expect when using astrological cycles and passages in terms of our relationships? Today we will focus on the cyclical nature of relationship and how we can best participate with the astrological intelligence.
Day 5 FREE DAY
October 30 Venus conjunct Saturn 8.45 am
As Venus and Saturn come together we find more time to be alone with our thoughts and to reflect on our relationships. It is the time before the New Moon; the darkened Moon and its final waning phase. In an ancient context this was the time for Hecate’s suppers, when food was taken to the crossroads to appease the mistress of the night and her dead. It was here at the crossroads of both the earthly and heavenly routes that the restless dead congregated seeking sustenance from the living. Offering the suppers to the restless dead and Hecate Trivia, the goddess of the crossroads and the Night, guaranteed that the dead would be pacified. We are in time being supported to let go and appease the ghosts of the past.
Day 6 Rewriting the Script
October 31 All Hollows Eve
New Moon 1.38 am
Moon conjunct Mercury 6.12 am
Today is a New Moon, at 6:00 am in the morning we will head for an ancient Balinese temple in a town called Tampak Siring. Here we will join the local people in a ritual bathing/purification ceremony followed by a temple blessing. This is of course an optional event, and women during their cycle do not participate.
We will return from the ceremony at around 9:30 am, have a late, light breakfast and then a short break before starting class. Today will be a shorter lunch break due to the later start.
What are the relationship patterns that you would like to change? First we must recognise and give them a name. Today, with the guidance of our horoscope, we will spend the day discovering and discussing the patterns of our relationships that keep us from feeling free to be who we are meant to be in relationship.
Day 7 Remembrance
November 1 Samhain
Endings, grief and loss play a major role in our relationships and today is the perfect day to make contact with the ghosts of the past. We will explore the nature of endings and beginnings, mourning, grieving and remembering past relationships so we can create more space for relationship in the present moment.
Day 8 Blessing
November 2 ALL SOULS DAY
Today is the last day of our workshop and we will tie together the themes of the week and give thanks for the new relationships we have made during the week as well as look ahead to going home and how we can feel freer and more present in our everyday relationships.

The Faculty was founded in 1948 and is the oldest school of astrology in the UK. It has a global student base and a team of 18 tutors across several countries. It offers an integrated programme of study which many people take simply out of a deep love of astrology and others are keen to follow as a professional training from beginner to practitioner level. Its mission has always been to raise the standard of education for astrologers, encouraging a thoughtful and ethical approach, as well as good technical skills and not least the confidence to exercise creative imagination in the reading of charts. These principles will all be reflected in this seven-day course.
